Though he will not be 100 percent this week, Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher said he expects quarterback Steve McNair to be ready to practice.
''Wednesday will be our target day for Steve to be on the practice field,'' Fisher told reporters Monday.
McNair has battled multiple injuries during the latter part of the season including a strained calf, sprained ankle, and cracked bone spur.
McNair did not practice last week and did not play in Sunday's game against the Buccaneers Sunday. Fisher said a break from the action has helped McNair recover.
''Steve feels better today than he's felt since injuring the calf,'' Fisher said. ''The rest last week and the rest over the weekend was significant. He's very excited about playing this week.''
Though McNair missed playing time, the rest ensured he would be available to practice this week. Fisher said the strategy has been planned from the beginning.
''That was the design for not playing him,'' Fisher said. ''Steve could have played and was better than he was in Houston, but in all likelihood had he played, he would have been sore and very limited on the practice. The reason for that is to get him on the practice field.''
With the rest, McNair will be mobile for practice this week, but Fisher said he may not be completely healthy.
''I don't know that he'll be 100%,'' Fisher said. ''He will be healthy enough to play the quarterback position the way he plays it.''
