The 2004 Pro-Bowl selections were released on Thursday, and after having no representatives in 2003, the Titans will send four to Hawaii this February.
Quarterback Steve McNair, Wide Receiver Derrick Mason, Linebacker Keith Bulluck, and Punter Craig Hentrich were named to the AFC’s team for the 25th annual all-star event.
McNair was added to the Pro-Bowl roster in 2000 to replace the injury Brian Griese, but this is his first ever selection based on voting. McNair has compiled a completion percentage of 64%, for 2,947 yards and 22 touchdowns and six interceptions in 13 games this season. McNair leads the NFL with a quarterback rating of 102.4, and in average yards per completion with 8.1yds.
''This is a tremendous honor for myself and my teammates,'' McNair said. ''I want to thank all of the fans for their votes and their support,it’s great to be recognized by the fans as well as all of the players and coaches, but like most awards, this really says a lot about everyone on this team and the coaching staff we have here.''
Derrick Mason will be making his second Pro-Bowl appearance. Mason has racked up career numbers in 2003 in receptions with 85, and yards with 1,169. Mason currently ranks 2nd in the AFC in receiving yards, 12th in the AFC in combined yards, and is tied for 11th in the conference with six touchdown receptions.
4th year linebacker Keith Bulluck has become one of the leaders of the NFL’s stingiest rush defense. Bulluck has amassed 121 total tackles, 1 interception, 3 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries, including a recovery for a touchdown against Carolina. Bulluck has also set a career high in sacks this season with three.
Craig Hentrich has become the Titans renaissance man this season. Filling in for the injured Joe Nedney at place kicker, Hentrich is 4 of 5 for field goals with a long of 49 yards, and a perfect 1 of 1 on extra points. Hentrich is also 2 of 5 passing on the year. All of this while maintaining a 43.3 average per punt, with 23 downed inside the 20 yard line. This is Hentrich second Pro-Bowl selection, his first trip was in 1998, and was named as alternate in 2001.
Despite finishing second in fan voting, three time Pro-Bowl Defensive End Jevon Kearse didn't make the team.
The 2004 Pro-Bowl will be played on Sunday February 8th, at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu.
