Deal With O'Donnell Appears Done
Staff Report December 18, 2003
The Titans expect to have quarterback Neil O'Donnell on the practice field Thursday afternoon, with a new contract in place.
''I'm excited,'' O'Donnell told the Tennessean. ''I am here to play for the players, the coaches. I am here to try and win a championship — that is what it is all about when it is all said and done. I think if that is accomplished, I think everyone's happy.''
The two sides worked all day trying to get a deal completed. Tennessee reportedly will restructure tackle Fred Miller's contract to gain the necessary $20,000 in salary cap room needed.
''The only thing Floyd said to me is, 'If we need your help can we count on you?' I said absolutely,'' Agent Harold Lewis told the Tennessean. ''In Fred's mind and in everybody else's mind it's crunch time, and you can't do it without a backup quarterback.''
