Volek Condition Approving; Likely Not Need Surgery
By Larry Stone December 16, 2003
Quarterback Billy Volek's medical condition continues to improve and he may not need surgery to remove his lacerated spleen.
''Billy's blood count over the last two to three hours has been elevating, which is a positive sign,'' Head Coach Jeff Fisher said. ''That will imply that at this point it is very, very unlikely he will need surgery.''
Doctors admitted Volek to the hospital Monday night after he complained of abdominal pain. Doctors also found signs of a decreased blood count, a sign of a problem with the spleen. A CT scan later show a cracked rib and a lacerated spleen.
