With a flu epidemic affecting much of the United States, the Tennessee Titans have grown concerned about the threat a virus would have on the team's health.
Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher said he knows all too well the seriousness of the flu.
''In light of what has taken place the last few weeks with this flu epidemic,'' Fisher said. 'And in light of what's taken place with me personally and with my daughter, I know how serious it is. It's being discussed and it's discussed on a daily basis and we're on top of it.''
Fisher also said he's instructed the entire team to take precautions.
''There were a number of players coughing in the meeting Saturday night,'' Fisher said. ''I told them to make sure they were hydrated.''
Titans defensive tackle Robaire Smith has been suffering from flu-like symptoms since early last week.
Fisher said the flu limited Smith in Sunday's game. Smith only played 20-25 plays.
''Robaire Smith had difficulty last week with it,'' Fisher said. ''He was IVed a number of times during the week. We're not to the point where we're wearing masks because we don't have that crisis yet.''
Titans backup quarterback and Sunday's star of the game, Billy Volek, has also been battling with the flu. After Sunday's game, Volek experienced dizziness in the shower and was unable to speak to media.
Fisher said Volek's sickness may have had to do with dehydration.
''He didn't eat as much as he probably should have,'' Fisher said. ''He was battling flu symptoms. Sometimes when you're sick, you don't feel like eating. He was a little dehydrated after the ball game and was very weak.''
Volek said the flu has been a problem for him for quite some time.
''The flu has been something I've been struggling with for a week now,'' Volek said. ''I just can't kick it. I give it to one of my kids and they give it back to me. I give it to my dog, he gives it back to me. It just goes around and around.''
