Agent: Volek Considering Surgery
Staff Report January 5, 2004

The agent for Billy Volek said the Titans quarterback continues to consider surgery on his right shoulder.

Volek suffered a separated shoulder in the fourth quarter of the Titans win over Detroit Sunday.

Head Coach Jeff Fisher said Monday that roughly half of such injuries have been repaired with surgery, the others with rest. Fisher said the Titans wanted to get a second opinion on Volek's shoulder before moving forward.

Agent Ken Staninger said Volek and the Titans are considering three specialists who have worked with baseball and football-related injuries.

''It's not a level 5, yet one physician told me there's not a big difference between level 5 and a level 3,'' Staninger told the Tennessean. ''Any time you have an injury to your throwing arm and you are a quarterback it is a serious injury, but this is not something that is career-ending.''

Staninger told the Tennessean a decision on Volek's shoulder will come during the next several days.

''We are all confident this is something that will be fine in time and he'll be ready to go in minicamps,'' Staninger told the Tennessean.
