Fisher Not Worried About Falling In Draft
By Brad Willis January 4, 2005

Some fans wondered if the Titans win Sunday hurt the team in terms of draft position.

Don't count head coach Jeff Fisher among those people. He said at his end-of-season press conference Monday, he sees little difference between picking third and picking sixth.

''You are going to get a good football player,'' Fisher said.

The Titans will not get serious into draft preparations until later in the month. January 15 is the deadline for juniors to make themselves available in the draft.

''Obviously we have to make the right decisions and there is going to be a great deal of time and effort put into it,'' Fisher said. ''Not anymore than any other year, but when you are picking that high typically as we have been picking where we have been picking you can look at the top 15-18 guys and say, well maybe if one of these guys falls we’ll be lucky. But you are typically looking at a lower pier now and we’ve got some options. We will maximize our options without question.''

It is the highest the franchise has picked since 1995 when the Oilers took Steve McNair in the first round. In addition to a high pick in each round, the Titans should also receive a signifcant compensatory selection for defensive end Jevon Kearse, lost in free agency last off-season.

As for what positions Fisher will be most interested in during the draft, the head coach admitted he has done very little work on college talent yet.

''I am going to be partial to those that can score touchdowns or those that can keep touchdowns from happening early,'' Fisher said.

This year's draft takes place April 23 and 24.
