Jerry Loveday, a 6th, 7th, and 8th grade teacher at Jefferson Middle School in Jefferson City, TN, was named the Saturn UAW General Motors Teacher Of The Year Sunday before the Titans-Lions matchup at the Coliseum.
"When I found out that I had been chosen as one of the people to come down, I just had a feeling then that I was gonna do it,'' Lovelady said. ''As he was calling off the names, it just kept building up and building up and I looked around and there was three people left and I thought oh my god it's going to happen."
"I'm just thrilled."
All 15 of the teacher of the week winners were eligible for the car -- each was featured during Titans Countdown this season on Titans Radio.
Mike Harron, Chairman of the United Auto Workers, said he was very excited about the day's events.
''We are extremely proud of this partnership, Harron said. ''We partner with the TEA, the teacher's union here in Tennessee. We have affiliations with teacher's unions across the United States. This is an opportunity for us not only to recoginze teachers but also to put a little money in their funds. Saturn, General Motors and the United Auto Workers are very proud of this program."
"We're thrilled to be here today to be able to give away a car and recognize these teachers."
