Smith Interviews For Miami Ohio Job
Staff Report December 22, 2004

Titans Running Backs Coach Sherman Smith interviewed for the vacant head coaching position at Miami (Ohio) University.

Smith, a former standout at the school, met with Redhawks Athletic Director Brad Bates in Nashville Tuesday. Smith would replace Terry Hoeppner, who left the school last week to become head coach at Indiana.

''If Sherman is interested in the job we want to give him every opportunity to pursue it,'' Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher said. ''Sherman has done a great job for us. I am interested to see how this plays out. Sherman ought to be honored he is being considered. It is a fine program. But I am sure, as is the case in most situations, they'll be talking to other candidates, too.''

Smith has been the Titans Running Backs Coach since the team moved to Tennessee. The Titans granted Miami permission to talk to Smith last week.
