Volek Joins Elite Group Of Quarterbacks
By Ben George December 19, 2004

Titans quarterback Billy Volek became just the fourth quarterback in NFL history to throw for at least 400 yards in consecutive games on Sunday night, joing Dan Fouts, Dan Marino, and Phil Simms.

Volek threw for 492 yards against Oakland after throwing for 426 yards against Kansas City on Monday Night Football for a total of 918 yards in two weeks.

Volek enters the company of three Hall of Fame quarterbacks with his accomplishment. Dan Fouts (San Diego, 1982), Dan Marino (Miami, 1984), and Phil Simms (NY Giants, 1985) were the only three quarterbacks to previously throw for 400 yards in back-to-back games.

Even more impressive than becoming one of just four NFL quarterbacks is that Volek has the second highest total among those four. His 918 total passing yards ranks behind only Phil Simms' 945 yards. Marino's total was third at 874 yards and Fouts fourth with 868 yards.

Marino is the only quarterback in NFL history to throw for 400 yards more than twice in a season. Volek will try to become the first quarterback to throw for 400 yards in three consecutive games on Christmas night when Tennessee hosts Denver.
