Troupe's First NFL TD Comes At Opportune Time
By Billy Byler December 19, 2004

Titans rookie tight end Ben Troupe, in his fifth start of the season, reached the endzone for the first time in his young Titans career Sunday night at Oakland.

With 1:33 left in the second quarter, Tennessee trailed 14-21 against the Raiders. With the ball resting Oakland's seven yard line on first and goal, Titans starting quarterback Billy Volek found Troupe in the endzone to tie the game.

''I think I'm just going out there and doing my job. When the ball comes my way it's my job to make plays,'' Troupe said after the game. ''I don't think it's my coming out game. I just think it's what I'm supposed to do when I'm out there.''

Later in the fourth quarter, a key Tennessee drive was saved with a highlight play from Troupe on second down in Oakland territory.

With 1:55 left in the game and the Titans trailing by 10 points, Volek found Troupe on the left flat for a short gain. After the catch, Troupe broke a tackle then blindly leapt over a would-be tackler to stretch the play into a 19 yard gain that moved Tennessee down to the Raiders one yard line. Volek scored three plays later to pull the Titans to within three.

''My decision making process isn't the best all the time,'' Troupe said when asked about the risky leap over a defender. ''I'll sacrifice my body any time to get over the goalline.''

Troupe, Tennessee's second round draft pick, tallied six catches for 75 yards for a career high night including the seven yard touchdown catch. On the season, the former Florida Gator has 26 receptions for 230 yards.
