Titans Radio and Edamerica will honor Friendship Christian senior Scott Gillespie with the Edamerica Scholar Athlete Award Sunday when the Titans take on the Raiders.

This weekly award is designed to award the stars and leaders of the future. It is awarded to an outstanding male or female high school student in the mid south region. The recipient must exemplify leadership in the classroom, in their community and on the field.

A panel consisting of Titans Radio partners from across the mid south selected Gillespie for his accomplishments in football and wrestling, as well as his outstanding academic achievements.

''Scott is a very dedicated student and athlete,'' coach John McNeal said. ''He is a leader on and off the field.''

Gillespie is captain of both the football and wrestling teams at Friendship Christian. He is also active in baseball and track.

Gillespie is also very active in school. He is a member of the National Honor Society, the National Achievement Academy, the Key Club and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

The senior, recently named to Who's Who in the Field of Academics, is also very active in his church and community.

Gillespie will be honored this Sunday during Titans Radio's Halftime Report with Mike Keith, Pat Ryan and Larry Stone as they present live coverage of the Titans and Raiders. Coverage begins at 2:00 pm central on 98.9FM WANT, the Titans Radio partner in Lebanon. Gillespie will also be featured on the Titans Radio website, www.titansradio.com

Gillespie will receive a plaque for the award and will also be eligible for a $1000 scholarship to be awarded at the end of the season.

This is the fifth season Titans Radio has recognized outstanding high school students during each game.
