Points came quickly for both the Titans and Chiefs in Monday night's 38-49 Tennessee loss. Something else also came in abundance for the Titans: penalties.
Tennessee was flagged for thirteen penalties on the night; setting them back 104 yards in the process. Highlighting the whistles was a roughing the passer call on Titans defensive end Travis LaBoy to keep a Kansas City drive moving late in the fourth quarter.
The penalty flag flew after LaBoy's arm grazed the shoulder of Chief's quarterback Trent Green. Many, including Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher, thought the call was questionable at best.
''He said he hit him in the face with his helmet,'' Fisher said. ''That's not what I saw on the jumbotron. I think it was an incorrect call.''
The penalty gave Kansas City fifteen yards and a first down keeping the Chiefs drive alive. The next play, Eddie Kennison caught a nine yard touchdown pass that would later prove to be the game winner.
Head Referee Tom White, who made the call against Travis LaBoy, did not receive a passing grade on his job as an official according to Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher.
''I actually am disappointed in Tom White's performance and the job he did officiating his game today,'' Fisher said. ''I'm disappointed. You've got to let players play.''
The thirteen penalties were the most called on the Titans this season and the 104 penalty yards was the second highest on the season. The most penalty yards called on Tennessee this season was 105 yards against Green Bay in week five, also a Monday Night Football game.
