Carter Named Community Man Of The Year
Staff Report December 6, 2004

Titans defensive lineman Kevin Carter was named the organization's Community Man of the Year for the third consecutive, his third time in as many years.

It marks the first time the award was won by the same player three consecutive years, and Carter is now a finalist for the 2004 Walter Payton / NFL Man of the Year Award.

''There are so many deserving men on this team, I’m truly honored to receive this award for a third year,'' Carter said. ''God has blessed my family in so many ways. We as athletes have been given a unique platform to pass those blessings onto others and I’m so proud to be part of the Titans organization that allows me to do all of these things in the community and identifies ways that we can make an impact. I’d like to thank my wife Shima for all of her personal efforts, love and support.''

The Titans honored Carter for the work he has done in the Nashville community. He and his wife, Shima, founded The Kevin Carter Foundation in August of 2002 to focus on character development, unique incentive programs for inner-city youth and assisting a variety of non-profit agencies through charity special events, appearances and financial contributions

Carter was selected by a majority vote from his Titans teammates, team executives, media and local non-profit agency executives for his dedicated community service. Other finalists were teammates Drew Bennett, Keith Bulluck, Steve McNair, Derrick Mason, Fred Miller and Samari Rolle who have also made significant contributions through their community involvement.

The only Oilers/Titans player to win the overall NFL award was Warren Moon in 1989 as a member of the Houston Oilers.
