The Titans revamped their defensive line this weekend, selecting five linemen with their 13 selections.
''We knew going in that the one area where we were going to revamp was D-line,'' General Manager Floyd Reese said. ''We feel very, very good about the people we got.''
Tennessee got three defensive ends and two tackles during the two-day draft, players that will help in replacing end Jevon Kearse and tackle Robaire Smith, both departed in free agency.
''We've got a rotation where we typically go into a game with seven,'' Head Coach Jeff Fisher said. ''There's a potential that one of these guys can step up and start. We're going to rotate and they're going to play.''
On day two Sunday, the Titans added defensive end Bo Schobel, a player the team discussed taking in the second round. Then, the fifth lineman came in round seven with the selection of defensive tackle Jared Clauss.
Reese said the additional picks gained gave the Titans the chance to target some specific needs, such as the return game. In the fourth round, the Titans selected cornerback Michael Waddell who handled punt and kickoff returns at North Carolina. Then, with the 165th selection, Tennessee took linebacker Rob Reynolds, who also long snapped.
''We got an extra linebacker who is also a great long snapper,'' Reese said. ''Does that fill two spots, who knows.''
Reese said versatility led the Titans to their four offensive players on day two. Troy Fleming, the University of Tennessee product taken in the sixth round, can play fullback and running back. Seventh round selection Sean McHugh has carried the ball, but projects as an H-Back or tight end in the pros.
The two offensive linemen selected, fifth round selection Jacob Bell and seventh rough pick Jared Clauss, can play multiple positions.
''(It was) an attempt to take care of the obvious needs and then fill in some holes,'' Reese said. ''We knew we had to go in and find a way to have some success. I think we feel very, very good about it.''
