Almost time for the NFL Draft

The 2015 NFL Draft is just a few short days away and the Titans are certainly busy! During this time of year, specifically April 1st-17th, is the window where draft eligible players are visiting Saint Thomas Sports Park for another look see. The Titans (like all other teams) may invite up to 30 players to visit, plus draft eligible players from area colleges may come to Nashville for a visit.

These visits are a last chance to talk to, get to know, look at them and continue what most of the top prospects went through back in February at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. Among those visits will be most of the top prospects like Florida State QB Jameis Winston, Oregon QB Marcus Mariotta, USC Defensive End Leonard Williams, etc.

You see, holding the #2 overall Draft Selection requires dotting all of I’s and crossing all of the T’s. This is one of the biggest decisions in GM Ruston Webster’s career. A whole lot is riding on what happens with this pick. So, the debate rages on…

Do they:
1. Keep the pick and select a franchise-type player (whether offense or defense).
2. Or, trade the pick and get a bevy of Draft Picks.  A bunch of picks that will only help this franchise get back in the WIN column.

I think most Titans fans prefer Option #2 for a couple of reasons.

1. If you trade down a few spots you can certainly pick up extra draft picks in 2015 and possibly next year.
2. If you wanted to trade back into the bottom of the first round you can package up some of the picks you acquired in the trade down, without costing you any of your original allotted draft picks.

Make not mistake about it, Thursday night April 30th will be interesting – to say the least!
