Titans Release WR Chris Davis, OL Datish
By Jonathan Hutton August 24, 2009
Just over three days after being arrested on a DUI charge, the Titans released Wide Receiver Chris Davis Monday.
Nashville Metro Police arrested Davis around 2:00am Friday morning in downtown Nashville. He had been left at home from the Dallas trip to rehab an injury.
Head Coach Jeff Fisher said Saturday he and the entire organization were "extremely disappointed" in Davis' decision making.
"We've got a good group of young receivers and didn't feel like Chris was going to make our club," Fisher said. "So with the injury and everything else considered it was a logical place to go for the roster spot."
Davis recorded three catches for 21 yards in the opening pre-season game at Canton. He had not played since. The coaches liked his development in the off-season, believing Davis could be a backup wide receiver and a potential return man.
The former Florida State product has appeared in 17 regular season games during his two NFL seasons, catching seven passes for 69 yards.
Along with Davis, Fisher announced the team waived offensive lineman Doug Datish, a two-year NFL veteran from Ohio State who has been sidelined with a shoulder injury. Fisher said the shoulder injury would have prevented Datish from making the final roster.
The Titans currently have two roster spots open that Fisher said he hoped to fill as soon as possible.
