Britt Makes Game-Winning Catch
By Eric Lister November 29, 2009
Titans rookie wide-receiver Kenny Britt caught the game-winning touchdown pass in Sunday's 20-17 come-from-behind victory over the visiting Arizona Cardinals.
Britt, the Titans first-round draft pick out of Rutgers University, finished the day with seven catches for 128 yards, but his biggest catch came as time expired as the Titans wrapped-up their fifth straight win.
"A lot of things were going through my head," Britt said. "I was trying to think about what coverage they were running and other things like that, but it was all in God's hands. Coach [Heimerdinger] pulled that play out of his hat and I just tried to go up and get the ball at its highest point, and I was able to haul it in."
"We work on scramble plays all week and on that play, Vince was in a little bit of trouble. You never know if he is going to run it or throw it, so you just have to stay alive and expect to make a play and that is what I did."
The touchdown, the first of Britt's career, made up for a costly mistake made on the previous Titans' possession. Young connected with Britt over the middle of the field for a 51-yard reception, but Britt fumbled the ball as he was tackled from behind by Arizona's Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.
"I wanted to make up for that play I made earlier in the game," Britt said. "You have to have a short memory, so the fumble wasn't on my mind when I was trying to make that play. When you do something you are not supposed to do like fumble, you try to make up for it. Everyone had my back and they lifted me up and we came together and I was able to make a play when it counted."
"This was my first game-winning touchdown and it is the best feeling. I have to credit my teammates that made plays before me on that drive, but I can't wait to watch it on film again tomorrow."
Britt said the hard work put in after a poor start is finally starting to pay off for the Titans.
"There are no words for this. Everybody is so happy right now since we are winning. The expressions on the people's faces are so good right now, they have changed since the start of this season and it feels so good. We never gave up and the veterans always pushed each other to get better and I think that has helped us get to where we are right now."
Britt has 26 catches on the season for a total of 393 yards and the Titans have improved their record to 5-6, one game from reaching the .500 mark. They travel to Indianapolis next week to face the undefeated AFC-South rival Colts. The Colts beat the Titans 31-9 at LP Field in their previous meeting.
