Struggling Jaguars Will Still Test Titans

By Charlie Sevier November 14, 2008

The Titans are the only undefeated team in the NFL, Head coach Jeff Fisher said their success has not come easy.

"They come to work and they know that if you prepare correctly and work hard on the practice field it will carry over in the ball game, that's just the attitude they've had all year dating way back in the off-season."

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Matt Jones, who in the preseason was arrested on allegations of cocaine possession, is on pace to generate a career high in catches and yardage.

“He's having a real good year," Fisher said. "Looks like he's got fewer drops, he had some issues last year with a few drops, and he's getting open on the shallow crossing routes and he's making the big plays down field. He's a big target and it takes time to get used to a big target and [quarterback] David's [Garrard] used to it now he's putting the ball where he can catch it."

Another dangerous wide receiver the Titans have to worry about is Jerry Porter. Porter injured his hamstring in May and didn’t play against the Titans in Week 1, but Fisher said the nine-year veteran out of West Virginia would be a good challenge for the Titans secondary.

“He's working back in, he's not playing as much right now as much as I think they would have liked, but he's working his way back in," Fisher said.

Kyle Vanden Bosch missed practice again this week because of a lingering groin injury. Fisher has elected to shut Vanden Bosch down the last week and a half so to not further the defensive end’s rehab.

"We're just day to day, we got [cornerback] Nick [Harper] back on the field and [fullback] Ahmard [Hall] back on the field and some other guys so it'll be just day to day," Fisher said.

Jaguars linebacker Mike Peterson's days in Jacksonville seem to be coming to an end. He did not play last week and head coach Jack Del Rio has danced around the idea of not starting him Sunday against Tennessee. Fisher said with or without him, the Jags are still a tough team to beat.

"They have tremendous depth. From a personal stand point, they're as good as anybody in the league right now. They did a great job putting a team together using free agency and drafting. They can very well be an 8-1 team right now, they're just a few plays away from winning those games. They're the real deal, the record is a little misleading but they're a very solid team."
