Assistant Special Teams Coach Marty Galbraith

NFL Season: 5th
Years With The Titans: 2nd
College: Missouri Southern

Marty Galbraith enters his second season with the Titans as assistant special teams coach and fourth overall in the NFL. Among his many duties, Galbraith will assist special teams coach Alan Lowry along with helping the offensive staff.

Last year, the Titans provided a number of highlights on special teams, including top 10 NFL rankings in both kickoff (24.2) and punt return averages (9.3), the number one punt return defense average (4.5) and the top first-year place-kicker in Rob Bironas (99 points on 23/29 field goals). The Titans also led the NFL in punt returns over 20 yards with seven and were one of only two teams (Washington) to not allow a punt return over 20 yards.

A 33-year coaching veteran, Galbraith has coaching experience in a variety of capacities and at all levels including pro, college and high school, most recently as offensive coordinator for Duke University during the 2004 season.

Galbraith has five seasons in the professional ranks with the Arizona Cardinals (Tight Ends, 2003) under Dave McGinnis, Kansas City Chiefs (Offensive Line, 1985), and USFL’s Tampa Bay Bandits (Offensive Line, 1983-84) and Arizona Outlaws (Offensive Line, 1986).

His experience includes 20 years at the collegiate level and another seven in the high school ranks. He was the offensive line coach at North Carolina State (2000) under Norm Chow and took over as offensive coordinator (2001-02) for the Wolfpack after Chow’s departure, setting numerous offensive records in his years at the helm.

He broke into the coaching ranks as a grad assistant at Northwest Missouri State in 1973 and would make stops at Purdue (1977), Wake Forest (1978-82, 1989-90), Louisiana State (1987-88), Pittsburgh (1991), Georgia Tech (1992-93) and Marshall (1998-99). His teams appeared in eight bowl games: 1979 and 2001 Tangerine Bowls, 1987 Gator Bowl, 1988 Hall of Fame Bowl, 1998 and 1999 Motor City Bowl, 2000 Micronpc.com Bowl and the 2002 Gator Bowl.

His tenure at Marshall saw the Thundering Herd post a 25-1 mark, including two Mid-American Conference championships and the development of current N.Y. Jet Chad Pennington into a first round draft pick.

A native of Joplin, Mo. (2/3/50), Galbraith was a standout defensive back at Missouri Southern and captained the NAIA national championship team in 1972. He was inducted in the Missouri Southern Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999. Galbraith has three children – daughters Kasie (37) and Amy (18), and son Stephen (27) - and resides in Nashville, Tenn.
