Long-Term Deal On Horizon
Titans right guard David Stewart signed a one-year deal with the team this past week, but both parties remain confident that they'll come to terms with a long-term contract extension before the starter becomes an unrestricted free agent.
Agent Bus Cook told The Tennessean he’s had conversations with the Titans about a long-term contract for Stewart, who started all 16 games at right tackle in 2007 after starting 14 games at the position in '06.
''They now have him under contract for another year, and after that he’d become a free agent,'' Cook said. ''We’ll keep talking, and we’ll see what free agency holds if we don’t get it worked out.''
Stewart's contract is worth $2.017 million for 2008. The Titans made Stewart a tender offer back in February, but he didn't sign it until this week. Stewart previously signed a waiver with the team that allowed him to take part in the offseason program.
