Schedule Possibilities for 2000
If the season ended today, Titans fans would get the chance to see the Dallas Cowboys and the Seattle Seahawks at Adelphia Coliseum in 2000.
While the NFL will not release next year's schedule until April, fans will know after this week's action which teams the Titans will play at home and away, based on a mathematical formula developed by the league.
Each AFC Central team plays ten division games, two more than the other divisions. The first and second place finishers in the AFC Central play one team from the AFC East and one from the AFC West. The other four teams play a total of three games against the AFC East or West.
The remaining games on the schedule come from the NFC. Each AFC division plays an NFC division on a three-year rotation. In 1998, the AFC Central played the NFC Central; this year, the NFC West; next year, the NFC East.
In 2000, the Titans will play eight regular-season home games. If the Titans finish second in the AFC Central, they would play these teams:
* Jacksonville
* Pittsburgh
* Baltimore
* Cleveland
* Cincinnati
* AFC West Second Place Finisher (currently Seattle)
* NFC East Second Place Finisher (currently Dallas)
* NFC East Third Place Finisher (currently NY Giants)
The Titans' eight regular-season away games would include the five AFC Central opponents plus:
* AFC East Second Place Finisher (Buffalo)
* NFC East First Place Finisher (Washington)
* NFC East Fifth Place Finisher (Philadelphia)
Should the Titans finish first in the AFC Central, they would host the first place team in the AFC West, the first and fourth place teams in the NFC East. They would travel to the first place team in the AFC East, the second and third place teams in the NFC East.
