| Sack Speacialist Jevon Kearse |
Freak Show
On Sunday afternoon at Adelphia Coliseum the Atlanta Falcons witnessed the Freak Show firsthand.
Everyone in Nashville is already quite familiar with the special talents of Titans' rooke defensive end Jevon Kearse (whose nickname is 'The Freak'). Now the rest of the league is beginning to take notice.
Kearse earned his place in the NFL record books against Atlanta by tallying two sacks to run his season total to 13.5, the most by any rookie in league history. After his performance on Sunday, it will be impossible for anyone to overlook this budding superstar.
15 NFL teams, however, did overlook Kearse on draft day last April. The former Florida Gator dropped to the sixteenth position in the draft, where Tennessee grabbed him.
'I'm just laughing at those other teams,' said Kearse.
Kearse has found a new home in Tennessee and fans and teammates alike appreaciate what he brings to the franchise.
'Jevon has worked hard for it and he deserves it,' head coach Jeff Fisher said. 'There is not a lot of 'I' as far as he is concerned. It's about team.'
When Fisher led his team back onto the field for a post-game celebration in front of the remaining fans, it wasn't 'Eddie' or 'Steve' they chanted, but 'Freak'.
Kearse then took the time to high-five what seemed like every fan left in the building. He was happy to reciprocate the affection.
'The fans did a good job this year,' Kearse said. 'I'm used to them down at Florida. I'm just doing my part to keep the fans into it.'
Kearse had no trouble inciting the 66,196 in attendance following his record-breaking sack. 'The Freak' did a dance and then mocked breaking something over his knee. That something was the rookie sack record.
After witnessing Kearse's performance on Sunday, it is clear that he will break a lot more records over his knee in the future.
