George gets 199 yards
Titans Run Eddie George Over Oakland

Titans running back Eddie George finished with the second-best performance of his career Thursday night as the Titans defeated the Raiders 21-14.

George finished with 28 carries for 199 yards and two touchdowns. It is the NFL's best rushing performance in 1999.

'I wanted to do whatever it took to get us a win,' George said. 'We needed to generate some offense.'

The Titans dodged three first-half bullets, as the Raiders' Michael Husted missed two field goals and Rich Gannon fumbled on the Titans' 8-yard line. Meantime, Tennessee's offense sputtered, with just 99 yards of total offense. The two teams went to the halftime break with no score.

In the second half, George came alive with 144 yards rushing and Steve McNair hit Frank Wycheck on several play action passes. Meantime, the defense contained Rich Gannon and the tandem of Napoleon Kaufman and Tyrone Wheatley.

'I can't say enough about the fans tonight,' head coach Jeff Fisher said. 'Again, they made a difference in the game.'
