Flooding Damages Adelphia Coliseum
Some 30 thousand gallons of water flooded four floors on Adelphia Coliseum's west side Thursday morning sending crews on quick repair and clean-up duty.
A pipe joint on the club level apparently failed during the early morning hours, causing the water to pour all the way to the basement levels. Though temperatures have been below freezing for much of the last two weeks, officials say the cold did not cause the problem.
The water heavily damaged flooring, carpet, furniture and ceiling tiles in the Titans' administrative offices as well as the Titans Radio Sales offices. One report said the ceiling in the media room where Jeff Fisher conducts his post-game press conference had completely caved-in from the water.
Workers spent most of the day removing debris and patching holes. Thursday night, workers began employing large blowers and dehumdifiers to dry the carpet.
'Most of the damage is cosmetic, there's certainly no safety concern,' Stadium Manager Bill Dickerson said. 'It's a lot of work to get done at certainly the wrong time.'
Titans Executive Vice President Don MacLachlan said the problem would have been much more serious had it occurred closer to Sunday's kickoff. Still, crews will work around the clock to make repairs and get the Coliseum ready for Sunday's 11:30a (cst) kickoff.
Fans will notice some of the damage Sunday where crews have patched holes in ceilings around the west side.
