Titans To Host Patriots, Travel To Oakland
Staff Report January 6, 2002
With Sunday's results around the NFL, the Titans added New England and Oakland as 2002 opponents.
Under the realignment plan, the league will place the Titans, Colts and Jaguars in their new division, using their final 2001 record to determine their finish in the new division. The Titans finished the season 7-9 which means the Titans would have finished first in the AFC South. The Jaguars and Colts both finished 6-10.
With New England's win over the Panthers Sunday, the Patriots finished atop the AFC East. The Patriots will come to Nashville next season to meet the Titans.
The Raiders had already clinched the AFC West title, thus the Titans will make a second straight trip to Oakland in 2002.
The Titans home games next season include Jacksonville, Indianapolis, Houston, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Washington Philadelphia and New England.
Tennessee will travel to Jacksonville, Indianapolis, Houston, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Dallas, New York and Oakland.
The Titans 2002 opponents finished with a combined record of 98-92 (pending the outcome of the Ravens/Vikings game Monday night).
The league will announce the dates and times for the 2002 schedule this spring.
