Moon: Would Go To Hall of Fame As Titan
By Michelle Manson December 22, 2001
Former Oilers quarterback Warren Moon said if chosen at some point for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, he would go in as a Tennessee Titan.
'Even though they (Oilers) moved and changed their name as far as I'm concerned, it's still part of the Houston Oilers,' Moon told Titans Radio's Larry Stone Saturday night. 'If I was to go into the Hall of Fame and I had to wear a helmet, I would wear a Titans helmet.'
Moon, who finished his Oilers career in 1993 with 33,685 passing yards and 38 300-yard days, retired this off-season after spending several years with the Chiefs.
The Oilers traded Moon in 1994 as part of new general manager Floyd Reese's efforts to get the team under the new salary cap. Moon said he harbors no bitterness over the decision.
Many former Oilers have had difficulty accepting the team's 1997 move to Nashville. Moon said the history of the Oilers days remains a part of the Titans new identity.
'I really do still consider myself a Houston Oiler,' Moon said. 'That's where I spent the majority of my career, and I still live there. I really enjoyed playing with those teams. 'There are still some guys on this Titans team I played with...Bruce Matthews, Blaine Bishop, guys like that.'
'I've got a legacy here with these Titans also.'
