Fisher: We Got Back On Track Today
By Larry Stone April 22, 2001

Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher said the seven selections in this weekend's NFL Draft filled some critical needs for his football team.

'We got back on track,' Fisher said. 'It's a good feeling.'

After drafting cornerback Andre Dyson and tight end Shad Meier Saturday, Tennessee started Sunday needing depth at wide receiver. The Titans got two players that had been high on throughout the last several weeks, drafting Northern Illinois' Justin McCareins in the fourth round and Northern Iowa's Eddie Berlin in the fifth.

'Both receivers were there and we felt good getting them,' Fisher said.

In the sixth round, the Titans picked Nebraska running back Dan Alexander. The Cornhuskers recruited Alexander as a fullback but switched him to running back where he gained some 11 hundred yards in 2000. Alexander will start with the Titans as a running back.

'He's a big man, he can run hard,' Fisher said. 'He's our kind of runner.'

Tennessee added an offensive tackle with its second pick in the sixth round, Minnesota offensive tackle Adam Haayer.

'It's hard to pass up a quality offensive lineman at that part of the draft,' Fisher said.

The final selection, Clemson linebacker Keith Adams, has already been labeled by some draft experts as a steal.

'We felt the best thing for us was to fill the spot at the outside linebacker spot and fill a special teams need,' Fisher said.

The draft picks will arrive Thursday night for a two-day orientation period in which the offense and defense will be introduced.
