More than 50 extra Oakland police officers and 90 extra Alameda County deputies will be in place for Sunday's AFC Championship game.
''Playoff games attract a lot of first timers who try to live up to the mystique of the Raider fan,'' Oakland Police Lt. Dave Kozicki told the Oakland Tribune. ''Many think (that) means excessive drinking and craziness.''
Officers will patrol in the stands and on the field. Weather permitting, officers will use a helicopter and, perhaps, a blimp, to patrol. Many will be undercover.
''It's a high profile game with national exposure for the city,'' Police Sgt. Tom Hogenmiller told the Oakland Tribune. ''We want the city to be reflected positively as we do the Raiders fans, who for the most part are not a problem. We get a bad rap from just a few nonregulars.''
Like Nashville in anticipation of last week's divisional playoff games, officials warned fans to beware of counterfeit tickets.
