Raiders Defensive End Armstrong Goes On Injured Reserve
Staff Report January 15, 2003

Raiders defensive end Trace Armstrong was placed on the injured reserve list Wednesday after rupturing a groin muscle.

Armstrong re-injured the groin last week while warming up for the division playoff game with the New York Jets.

''I really don't have words to describe it right now,'' Armstrong told ESPN.com Wednesday. ''It's frustrating with where this team is and the opportunities we have. You'd like to be there to help and be a part of it, but this game is nine-tenths misery. That's why you've got to enjoy the high moments because there are usually a lot more bad ones than good ones.''

Armstrong successfully returned this season after missing last season with a torn Achilles tendon. He said he had injured the groin earlier in the season, but he tore it completely before the game.

''It was an injury I had prior to going into (Sunday's) game, and I was just trying to manage it,'' he told the website. ''It was a partial tear before I started, and now it's a complete one.''

To fill the vacant roster spot the Raiders moved safety Keyon Nash to the 53-man roster.
