Kearse Does Not Practice, Plans To Play
Staff Report January 9, 2003

Titans defensive end Jevon Kearse did not practice Thursday as he continued to deal with soreness in his foot.

''We intentionally rested Jevon after the way he felt after practice yesterday, but I'm quite confident he'll be ok,'' Head Coach Jeff Fisher said.

Kearse had to leave practice Wednesday with some soreness in his foot. Kearse said Thursday that he understands that he will continue to be sore for several more weeks.

Guard Zack Piller practiced again Thursday and he continues to progress toward returning to the lineup after missing three games with a calf injury.

''If he's limited under any circumstances getting down to the next level and covering up linebackers, it could be prohibitive for him,'' Fisher said.

Fisher said Piller will have a unique challenge in facing the Steelers 3-4 defense.

''There's not necessarily people covering the guards in this system,'' Fisher said. ''And so Zach is very heavy handed and he matches up well with big linemen, and when he's uncovered he's gotta move, and that's the thing that will go into the consideration.''

The Titans will follow their normal Saturday routine Friday with a short walk-through.
