While the Pittsburgh Steelers finished third in the AFC and had to fight for a victory against the Cleveland Browns last Sunday, the Titans were able to sit at home during their bye week and rest.
Steelers head coach Bill Cowher said that it does not matter at this time of the year whether or not you have a bye. Cowher said that the Steelers understand the situation they are in and the road they chose for themselves.
''Where you are does not really matter at this point,'' Cowher said. ''This is the road we have created for ourselves and that’s the way the season works and that’s the way it should work.''
''It’s all a reflection of how the regular season goes and we did not have enough wins to give ourselves a bye,'' Cowher said. ''So we have to play every week, and like I said its kind of sudden death and we are taking it one game at a time.''
Cowher said as head coach he has to be careful with a short week of practice and getting guys healthy and ready to play on Saturday.
''Well, number one are the physical factors, this time of the year you have not had a break in the year since early in the season,'' he said. ''We will try to keep this week as normal as possible, and take the short end on the end of the week.''
The Steelers are coming off a 17-point rally to defeat long time rival Cleveland in last week’s wildcard game 36-33. The last time the Steelers and Titans met, the Titans held off a late Steelers rally to hold on and win 31-23.
