Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher addressed the media at Baptist Sports Park on Monday and immediately reflected on Sunday's game against the Texans.
''We felt all week that we were going to have a tough round yesterday due to the improvement of the Texans over the last four to five weeks,'' Fisher said.
The Texans evident improvement came five weeks ago when they knocked off the New York Giants 16-14 and then herded through the steel city two weeks later to beat Pittsburgh 24-6.
''Throughout the week we were preparing for the unexpected and expecting all kinds of different things from them,'' Fisher said. ''Our guys did a nice job of attacking.''
When the Titans went into the locker room at halftime, the score was 6-0 thanks to two Joe Nedney field goals. Running back Eddie George would add a late touchdown in the fourth quarter which made the final score 13-3.
''In essence, we ended up trading punches with them throughout most of the game and when we needed a spark to go in the game, we got the spark,'' Fisher said.
The ability for the Texans to move the ball at times on the ground and David Carr's 214 yard air attack raised a concern for Fisher.
''Defensivley it wasn't our best effort, despite the fact that we held them to three points.''
Fisher says that the Titans were able to make the plays when they needed to and the special teams came up big in the winning effort.
''The two special teams plays with the blocked field goal and the blocked punt were the key plays for us in the game and I thought that this may have been one of our better games from a special teams perspective.''
With the matchup against the Texans, it marked the fifth game in the month of December for the Titans.
''When you go undefeated in December and win 10 out of 11 there are going to be some games like this that are hard and this one was hard,'' Fisher said. ''We looked tired for most of the game and the defense played many more snaps in the second and third quarter than we expected.''
Fisher said that the team is going to focus on concepts this week at practice and await the outcome of this weeks wild card matchups to see who they will be facing in two weeks.
''We're going to take advantage of the week off.''
