McNair Continues To Deal With Lower Back Stiffness
By Nathan Ealy December 27, 2002

Quarterback Steve McNair continued to watch practice from the sidelines Friday as he is dealing with lower back pain and stiffness.

''He feels better today,'' head coach Jeff Fisher said. ''The low back tightness and stiffness is what he's dealing with. There's nothing structurally wrong. The ribs are feeling better and the toe is feeling better.''

McNair has seen little practice time since injuring his toe early in November. Also sitting out of practice on Friday were defensive tackle John Thornton, and offensive linemen Brad Hopkins and Zach Piller.

''(John) is still a gametime decision, he still has some swelling in there,'' Fisher said. ''He hasn't been able to do much on the field this week.''

''They're making progress,'' Fisher said of Hopkins and Piller. ''Everyone's making the trip, and we'll work them out before the game. Between Brad and Zach, Brad has the better chance.''

While Piller and Hopkins continued to sit out, fellow linemen Gennaro DiNapoli and Benji Olsen both practiced despite suffering from flu-like symptoms.

''They both practiced today, they are feeling a little better,'' Fisher said.
