Fisher Looking For Improvement In Season Finale
By Cameron Etheridge December 29, 2005

Despite the Titans' 4-11 record this season and his team far from qualifying for playoff contention in the competitive AFC, Fisher said he is still looking for more improvement in the Titans final game against the 11-4 Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

''I'm looking from improvement from everybody,'' Fisher said. ''As an offense we need to run the football better. We need to protect a little bit longer to give ourselves a chance to put the ball down the field and cut down on some mistakes. I'm not singling out the offensive line...that would apply to most every position on the team.''

Fisher said that the Titans lack of production in the running game has been due to the Titans having to pass early in the game in order to try to reduce the scoring deficit between them and their opponents.

The Titans are 25th in the league in rushing offense (1,426) and 28th in rushing touchdowns (8).

Titans' running backs Chris Brown and Travis Henry have combined for a total of only 1,138 yards on the ground and five touchdowns.

Fisher said that although Brown's durability has improved since last year, Brown also has missed key moments in the Titans offense.

'' [Brown's] been healthy, but he's missed some time,'' Fisher said. ''We've really had just a couple of games where both [Brown and Henry] were at least 100 percent where we could count on both of them.''

Fisher is also looking to evaluate players that have not had significant playing time during the regular season.

Fisher said former LSU quarterback Matt Mauck displayed his ability to run the offense with the first team during practice on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

''Tempo has been great...we've saved about eight minutes off both practices in the last two days,'' Fisher said. ''[Mauck] is in and out of the huddle, he knows what to do...so we'll just kinda wait and see...we'll wait on Steve and see what happens.''

McNair's status is questionable for Sunday's game.

The former MVP suffered from a strained pectoral muscle during last week's game against the Miami Dolphins.

Mauck appeared in just one game for the Titans when he filled in for an injured Steve McNair and Titans second string quarterback Billy Volek. In that game he threw eight completions for 71 yards against NFC Western Division opponent Arizona.
