Fisher Says Team Wants To End With A Win
By Martha Montiel December 28, 2005

Make no mistake about it - the Titans want to win this weekends match up against Jacksonville.

A win will move the Titans record to 5-11, which was their record last season, and a win will give motivation heading into the off season programs.

Fisher said his team will give 100 percent this weekend because of team pride and said there is no talk about getting a higher draft pick.

''People assume that because you are eliminated and your record’s not what it should be, that you may not give 100 percent effort towards winning so that you draft higher and that’s not true that doesn’t happen, you can’t do that,'' Fisher said. ''Now, you may play a few players here and there but the bottom line is you go out to win the ball game. There is a distinct difference between having earn the right to do what you see fit as you approach the playoffs. We understand that in these last games that the fans have purchased tickets and they want to go out and see the players but the reality is you have earned that right and you’ve worked so hard to get to that point that you have to do the best thing for your team as you approach the playoffs.''

Fisher said ending the season on a winning note could help transition the Titans into a good off season program in preparation for 2006.

''The last game of the season has a lot to do with things and our players realize this,'' Fisher said. ''They are doing the best they can, they are going to go out there as a team, and do everything they possibly can to try to win and they have made a commitment to one another by stepping on this field at training camp. What you have to do is…just go out and play and have fun, do the best you can and things have a tendency to work themselves out in the off season.''

To accomplish their goal of winning this weekend, the Titans may have to accomplish it without some of their best players. Coach Fisher said Thursday and Friday will be key practices to see if certain players can go.

''Drew [Bennett] is a little sore with an aggravated groin; we will try to get him back Thursday if not Friday,'' Fisher said. ''McNair is a little better at this point I would not expect him to throw tomorrow. I’m hoping to get him out there by Friday so he can practice.''

Like the Jaguars, the Titans also have a quarterback issue to deal with in the final week. McNair is trying to come back from a pectoral strain that occurred during warm-ups for Miami, and has sat out every practice as of Wednesday. Matt Mauck took several reps during Wednesday’s practice in case he gets the call on Sunday.

''If Steve can’t go, I gave Matt the reps and we’ll just see what happens,'' Fisher said. “As it relates to Billy, we know what Billy can do; Billy has done a great job for us as a reliever.’’
