Saban Says Added Confidence Is Helping Dolphins Win
By Jonathan Hutton December 20, 2005

If the Dolphins had played in November like they have in December, they would be bound for the playoffs.

Miami lost three of four games in the month of November, but enter Saturday's game against the Titans on a four game win streak.

Dolphins Head Coach Nick Saban said he contributes the winning streak to hard work and consistency.

''I just think that we've played with a little more confidence, I think a little more tenacious- resilient type attitude, and our ability to overcome adversity in a game and respond like you would like to respond,'' Saban said.

Saban said players on the team have picked up their game in recent weeks and are executing the offensive game plan.

''We've had some really good players step up,'' Saban said. ''Chris Chambers has had a great run in terms of making big plays and our runners have done a good job consistently all year.''

''Our confidence and execution has gotten a little bit better on offense and defense,'' Saban said. ''Even though sometimes our special teams have been a little thin in terms of personnel, I think they've done a really good job for us as well.''

Safety Lance Schulters and defensive end Kevin Carter will face their old team this Saturday in the Titans. Saban said both players have been a good fit for Miami.

''I think Lance has done a really good job for us this year,'' Saban said. ''He's played with as much consistency as anybody in the secondary. His toughness is special to me. He's a good tackler, he plays hurt, gets after it, a really good competitor, and he's done a really good job at providing leadership for that group which was kind of put together from all over a year ago in the off-season. Lance has been a very stabilizing force there.''

''Kevin has done great for us all year long,'' Saban said. ''He's a class character guy and he's been a good competitor for us and very positive leadership…for our younger guys. You can't ask for a better person to be on your team. We're very pleased with what Kevin has been able to do for us on the field and off.''

Schulters said he feels the Titans gave up on him too early and wants to prove this week that they made a bad decision in releasing him last off-season.

''They went another direction and I just want to prove to [the Titans] that I can still play,'' Schulters said.''They could have signed me back if they had wanted to but they probably figured I was washed up and they wanted to go in a different direction.''

Schulters said his displeasure with the Titans lasted as long as it took for Miami to sign him.

''Once the Dolphins picked my up I was pretty much over it,'' Schulters said.
