In the last two Titans’ games, Kyle Vanden Bosch has done something unheard of for a defensive lineman: he has played every defensive snap.
Vanden Bosch played all 55 snaps in the Indianapolis game and totaled six tackles. He lost two sacks due to Tennessee penalties.
In the win over Houston, KVB was in the game for all 58 plays, notching seven tackles and two sacks.
Vanden Bosch’s refusal to come out of games is one reason that he has 12.5 sacks. He is tied for second in the NFL with the New York Giants’ Osi Umenyiora, as both stand just one-half sack behind the Raiders’ Derrick Burgess.
More impressive than even the sack total, Vanden Bosch is on pace to record more than 100 total tackles. He currently has 88 tackles with three games to play. 100+ tackle seasons don’t come around often for defensive linemen, but with Vanden Bosch’s effort, it is not surprising that he will likely top the century-mark. His relentless style fits perfectly with what Titans defensive line coach Jim Washburn wants to see from his guys.
Washburn is a big fan.
So are the Titans’ fans.
A huge crowd showed up for Vanden Bosch’s appearance at Hecht’s in Cool Springs last Saturday. We’ll have a feature on KVB’s Hecht’s appearance this week on Titans All Access.
The autograph line was long for a guy who was unknown to most Titans’ fans less than eight months ago. Vanden Bosch signed with Tennessee on April 25, ending a four-year tenure filled with disappointment in Arizona. Now, Vanden Bosch is headed for a big payday and possibly the Pro Bowl.
If ever someone has done more with a second chance…

Maybe Bobby Wade can be the next Kyle Vanden Bosch for the Titans?
Wade was cut on Tuesday after a disastrous season as the Chicago Bears’ punt returner. Wade mishandled eight punts this season. The Titans claimed the former fifth round pick on Wednesday.
The good news for Wade as he gets to Nashville is that he doesn’t have to worry about returning punts.
The Titans now have someone who can do that, thank you.
All the third-year man from Arizona has to do is concentrate on playing wide receiver.
Wade caught 42 passes for 481 yards last year for the Bears. Titans’ fans saw him at work at the Coliseum on November 14, 2004. In the Bears’ 19-17 overtime win over the Titans, Wade caught four passes for 63 yards and rushed three times for 21 yards.
The guy clearly had a spark that day. Maybe Wade can regain it playing in Nashville full-time.
One more note on Bobby Wade: it sounds like the Titans have signed a good guy. In an article yesterday in Chicago Tribune, the newspaper wrote: “He was arguably the most active Bear in the team’s community outreach program, constantly visiting schools to steer kids clear of gangs.”

Titans head coach Jeff Fisher summed up the Seattle Seahawks rather succinctly:
“Well, their running back has 23 rushing touchdowns, the quarterback has thrown 19, and the defense has 15 interceptions and 45 sacks, so they are playing pretty well.”
The Seahawks have won nine games in a row. They have already won the NFC West. Seattle is close to clinching home field throughout the NFC playoffs.
They are truly are the Colts of the National Football Conference.
Shaun Alexander has those 23 rushing touchdowns, along with 1496 yards to lead the entire NFL. Matt Hasselbeck isn't married to Elisabeth, the young blonde lady on "The View"---that's his brother Tim---but he’s becoming famous by running an offense that is averaging 375 yards per game.
Hasselbeck’s receivers are older, very effective and both from Penn State: Bobby Engram and Joe Jurevicius. That corps is about to get stronger, as veteran Darrell Jackson is ready to come back from a knee injury that he sustained on October 2.
Jackson is Seattle’s most potent receiver and he is expected to play on Sunday.
The key to the Seattle offense is their offensive line, which is arguably the best in football.
The Seahawks’ defense has been infused with youth and speed. Linebacker Lofa Tatupa is a lock for defensive rookie of year honors. They have three players---Rocky Bernard, Bryce Fisher and Leroy Hill---with seven or more sacks. In the last two games, the Seahawks have outscored the opposition 83-3, largely because the defense has produced eight takeaways.
Seattle is 11-2 for a lot of reasons, but the fact that they are #1 in the NFL Red Zone offense (34 touchdowns in 50 trips inside the opponents’ 20) and #2 in the league in Red Zone defense (13 touchdowns allowed in 33 trips) has to be a huge factor.
Another reason that 2005 Seahawks are better? Look at the list of players that they let go (see below) after 2005. Outside of departures for normal reasons, Seattle made a point to get rid of players who they felt were “too individual”.
As these Seahawks head down the stretch, they have the same look about them that the Tennessee Titans did in 1999.
They are flat good. They are hot. They believe that they cannot be stopped.
And most importantly, they are enjoying winning as a team.
A few notes…Since the second half of the Jacksonville game on November 20, the Titans are just 8-46 (17%) on third down conversions…Through the first nine games of the season, Chris Brown totaled 14 receptions for 109 yards (7.8 yards per catch). In the last four games, Brown has 11 grabs for 218 yards (19.8 per catch). Brown still has Tennessee’s only 100 yard receiving game this season.
The Titans still do not have a 100 yard rushing performance in 2005…Brown needs 223 total yards (or 77.7 per game) to reach 1000 yards rushing for the second season in a row…
Shaun Alexander’s most impressive statistic? Alexander is 13-13 on 3rd and 1 tries…
Pacman Jones leads the NFL in punt returns with a 12.9 average. His 80 punt return yards against Houston were the highest single game total in the AFC this season. Jones is fifth in the NFL in kickoff returns with a 26.5 yard average…
Tennessee has rushed the football 30 or more times in just two games this season: in both wins over Houston. Since 1999, the Titans are 51-6 when they rush the ball 30 times for more; they are 14-37 when they rush the football 30 times or less…
Even though they gave a up a kick return at the end of the game, the Titans are still #2 in the NFL in kickoff coverage, giving the opponent an average start at their own 24 yard line…
