Titans Claim Wade
Staff Report December 15, 2005

The Titans claimed former Bears wide receiver Bobby Wade off waivers Tuesday.

The third-year pro tallied 10 catches for 80 yards this season. Last year as a starter in Chicago, Wade caught 42 passes for 481 yards.

''We were kind of looking for a practice squad receiver and then he popped on the wire,'' Titans General Manager Floyd Reese told the Tennessean. ''Of course he is going to have more experience and knowledge than a practice squad guy.''

Wade's problem this year: nine special teams fumbles.

''I think he got in the dog house (in Chicago) because he fumbled some punts and they brought in (Muhsin) Muhammad, so his role had kind of lessened,'' Reese told the Tennessean. ''So we'll see if maybe a new situation or fresh start makes a difference.''

Head Coach Jeff Fisher said the former Arizona Wildcat receiver has plenty to catch up on, but shows promise.

''We know what he can do , we've evaluated him in college and we saw him play an awful lot with the Bears...it's difficult to pick up system this late,'' Fisher said. ''We're hoping he can learn enough to where he can adjust, get open, and we can take advantage of his ability. He's a very nifty inside slot receiver with run after catch ability...I think he can help us.''

Fisher said that he told Wade this morning that he would be active during the game on Sunday and that he would give him the opportunity to contribute.

To make room for Wade, the Titans will place Roydell Williams on injured reserve.
