Looking To Calico For Production
By Jonathan Hutton December 12, 2005

Who says these last three games don’t matter? Try telling Titans wide receiver Tyrone Calico that.

Calico is coming back from an ACL injury he suffered in last year’s preseason and Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher said he is looking for Calico to show that he is going to be back to where he was at the end of his rookie season.

''As I said over the last couple of weeks, I have confidence that he is going to return to where he was because he at one point was making those plays,’’ Fisher said. ''At the end of his rookie year we felt like he was going to be the big play guy for us down the field.’’

Calico has 18 catches for 157 yards on the season, including two catches against Houston on Sunday for 20 yards. Coach Fisher said there were still plays the third year receiver should have made.

''He had several opportunities yesterday,’’ Fisher said. ''He had the low ball in the slant which you would like to see him make and then the deep ball, you would like to see him make that catch. The defender made a good play but Ty is here to out jump or go up and make that play.’’

Calico’s dropped passes were something that Fisher said had nothing to with his ability to play in the Titans offense.

''Mentally he knows what to do,’’ Fisher said. ''He's given the right plays and doing those things, its just a matter of opportunity.’’

Fisher said he knows that Calico’s injury played a factor in his production this season, but Fisher said he does expect good things out of Calico in the final games of 2005.

''The ACL, again, is a difficult injury to overcome, especially in the first year,’’ Fisher said. ''There is an adjustment period there, and it takes time.''

''That's why these next few weeks are critical for Ty. They are critical for Ty to show us that he is on course, and I believe that he is.”
