Fisher Says Offense Will Keep Working Despite Recent Struggles
By Jonathan Hutton December 12, 2005

After two straight games without an offensive touchdown, Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher said a lot contributes in being consistent on offense.

The Titans gained 15 first downs in Sunday's 13-10 win over Houston, but were just 3-13 on third down conversions, and their 13 points came from two field goals from kicker Rob Bironas and a 52-yard punt return from Pacman Jones.

''Obviously, first off it's not a good thing,'' Fisher said. ''We're working hard and we've had opportunities, we just haven't gotten the ball in the end zone.''

Fisher said a reason for inconsistency may be because of so many players having to play this season.

''There are a lot of different people (playing),'' Fisher said. ''…we just haven't had any continuity.''

Still, Fisher said the lack of continuity on offense doesn't lead to lack of opportunity.

''That's no excuse for not catching balls or not breaking tackles,'' Fisher said. ''The opportunities are there. The plays are there. The plays are being called and we're just not making them.''

Some of those opportunities came on fourth downs, where the Titans came up short each of the three times they attempted to convert on the final play of those drives.

''We haven't had an awful lot of (dropped balls) this year,'' Fisher said. ''We've been fortunate. We've had a lot of big catches. Tough catches. This happened to be one of those games where we did - we dropped some balls.''

Fisher said the receivers and tight ends will go back to work this week to try and fix anything that isn't working in the receiving department.

''You work your way through that,'' Fisher said. ''Guys were not dropping balls per say on the practice field. In order to win close games you have to make tight throws. We had some opportunities in the end zone to make some catches and we haven't made them and most of those throws are tight and those catches.''
