Titans Radio named Paducah's News Talk 570 WKYX and Martin's Mix 101.3 WCMT as its 2005 Radio Partners of the Year during ceremonies in Nashville Sunday.
WKYX Program Director/Morning Show Host Greg Dunker and WCMT News Anchor Misty Menees accepted the award prior to the Titans 13-10 win over the Texans Sunday. Both were recognized before the Coliseum crowd and met with Titans Owner K.S. "Bud" Adams.
''In my 46 years as owner of this team, I have never seen a radio network for any team - in any sport - that takes such an active role in supporting so many initiatives of their team,'' Adams said.
Titans Radio Executive Producer And Gameday Host Larry Stone said WKYX and its staff have, in just their third year as a Titans Radio affiliate, created an incredible impact on the Titans fan base in western Kentucky.
''In back-to-back year, WKYX has produced the largest Caravan stops of our 2 week trip,'' Stone said. ''They've done it through an incredible promotional effort that went beyond their Titans station. They recognized that the NFL is one property that attracts listeners on every type of programming format. And they've put their stable of stations to work for us.''
''In short, WKYX has made the Paducah area 'Titans Country'.''
In WCMT's case, Stone said the station has Titans shown the kind of excellence that the network wants to represent.
''When Mike Keith and I began traveling to radio stations in 1998 to talk to them about joining our network, we tried to find the stations that were heavily involved every aspect of the communities they serve,'' Stone said. ''If you look across our list of stations, you see classic, heritage stations that truly are part of everything important in those communities. It's something we don't see enough in radio any more.''
''WCMT does it better than anyone -- not just with the Titans -- but with everything.''
The Titans Radio Partner of the Year Award began in 1998, just one year after the Oilers arrived in Nashville. Each year, the network recognizes up to two stations for their track record of excellence.
''These are stations that year in, year out, irregardless of record, irregardless of the economy, come to the plate with ideas, promotional efforts, sales and programming support for Titans Radio and the Tennessee Titans,'' Stone said. ''With 80 plus stations on the network, it shows just how exceptional their work has been.''
The network also recognized four individuals for their contribution to Titans Radio. WMCP Radio of Columbia received the Titans Radio Sales Superstar Award for Tom Williford and Mack Shaw's work in that area. Huntsville's Rocket 95.1 Program Director Jimbo Wood was named the Programming Superstar Award winner.
Titans Radio named Commonwealth Broadcasting's Dale Thornhill its 2005 MVP Award winner for lasting and outstanding contributions to the team and the radio network.
More than 80 stations carry Titans Radio broadcasts across the mid south. The NFL's largest network brings fans across the region complete Titans coverage with Mike Keith, Frank Wycheck and Larry Stone each week. The network is also online at www.titansradio.com.
