With quarterback Steve McNair and defensive end Travis LaBoy both probable, the Titans put finishing touches on Sunday’s game plan for Houston.
Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher said McNair made progress towards playing on Sunday when he threw during seven-on-seven drills and said LaBoy has a chance to play.
Fisher said defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth played very well against Indianapolis last week, which is a positive sign that he is progressing from his injury earlier in the season.
''[Albert’s] been sore since the Baltimore injury, but with each week he’s improving,’’ Fisher said. ''He was very effective last week inside.''
In the past two weeks, the Titans have featured Pacman Jones on the offensive side of the football, along with his usual duties at cornerback and kick returner. Fisher said it was the entire staff’s decision to use Jones’ athleticism to his fullest potential.
''We wanted to take advantage of his ability to do things with the ball in his hands…and we’ll continue to do that,’’ Fisher said. ''It’s not something that happens every week, but it will be something that we’ll continue to look at.’’
Some view cornerbacks as receivers without soft hands, but Fisher said Jones can do it all.
''He was an offensive player all the way up till the time he got to college,’’ Fisher said.
One positive for the Titans has been the health of running back Chris Brown. Fisher said although Brown has had his bumps and bruises throughout the season, overall he has been durable in 2005.
''Last year he struggled with the toe and then the ankle and didn’t finish the last four or five weeks and this year he’s been there just about every week,’’ Fisher said. ''There have been situations in games when he’s got a burner or something like that but he’s been there week after week which is good. That’s our hope - is that we can finish up strong the last four weeks with him, but at the same time give Travis [Henry] his share of carries.’’
Fisher said that finishing strong may be Brown’s motto for the last four games.
''In his case, I think he has something to prove personally, in that he was not able to not start or finish a year in his first two years here, so this will be good for Chris knowing that he started off a season strong and knowing that he finished up strong,’’ Fisher said.
