Fisher Says Young Players Need To Step Up Against Texans
By Ian Skotte December 7, 2005

Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher said in his Wednesday press conference that tight end Erron Kinney will get a chance to return this season.

''We had to scope him late yesterday,'' Fisher said. ''He’ll be fine. There’s a chance he’ll get back before the seasons over with. It was a routine scoop and it went well. It was unfortunate that it happened, but we wanted to get after it as quick as we could to give him a chance to come back.

''I’m disappointed for him. ... Fortunately the knee’s not going to be at risk.''

Fisher added that tight ends Bo Scaife, Ben Troupe and Greg Guenther need to carry the load for the Titans while Kinney’s out with the knee injury.

''That’s good,'' Fisher said. ''Ben’s [Troupe] made a lot of plays for us as has Bo [Scaife] here in the last few weeks.''

With regards to losing rookie wide receivers Roydell Williams and Brandon Jones Coach Fisher said that he’s relying on players like O.J. Small to step up.

''We’ll keep [O.J. Small] up this week and he can play all three positions,'' Fisher said. ''We lose Roydell’s playmaking ability and his speed, but I’ve got confidence in the other four [Drew Bennett, Tyrone Calico, O.J. Small and Courtney Roby] to make plays.''

In the upcoming match up against the Houston Texans, Coach Fisher said that it’s going to take putting together four quarters.

''We played as good of a third quarter against them [Houston] as we’ve played all year,'' Fisher said. ''So why don’t we try to put four of those quarters together.''

Coach Fisher also acknowledged the rivalry pertaining between the two franchises stemming from the Houston Oilers organization moving to Tennessee.

''Well every time we play them it’s a special game only because Mr. Adams lives in Houston and everything that happened,'' Fisher said. ''But, once kickoff starts, all those things are set aside.

''We always look at this as a must-win game for our franchise.''

Other injuries of note, defensive end Travis Laboy returned to practice Wednesday after missing Sunday’s game against the Colts with a hyper-extended elbow.

Quarterback Steve McNair did not practice.
