Small Looking To Make The Most Of Opportunity
By Jonathan Hutton December 7, 2005

Injuries have plagued the Titans receiving corps in 2005.

Heading into Week 14, rookie wide outs Brandon Jones (knee) and Roydell Williams (wrist) will miss the remainder of the season, and both Tyrone Calico and Drew Bennett are fighting their respective injuries.

But for rookie receiver O.J. Small, his part in the 2005 season begins Sunday.

Small will fill the fourth wide receiver spot on Sunday behind Bennett, Calico, and Courtney Roby. Small said he always played hard on the Titans practice squad hoping his time would come to show the Titans coaching staff what he can do for the team on game days.

''All the time I was up here, I've been trying to show the coaches what I can do so now it's just a perfect opportunity to show them what I can do in a game now in a game time situation,'' Small said. ''I'm just going to try to make the best of it.''

Small, a rookie from Florida, spent time learning the offense during summer camp and preseason games. Small said already being prepared for the play calling will add to what he can bring for the Titans this Sunday.

''It helps to know the offense so that you feel comfortable out there,'' Small said."If you know what you're doing, you play a lot faster, you play more fluently and everything.''

Small produced three catches for 25 yards in the two games he played for the Titans in the preseason. Small said he will play any role to help this team achieve there goal of a victory over Houston.

''Whatever helps the team,'' Small said. ''If it's on special teams, if it's blocking, making catches or whatever it may be. I'm just going to try to do my part.''

''When I do get in the game I'm just going to try to make the most of it.''
