Fisher Looks For Individual Improvement
By Jonathan Hutton December 5, 2005

Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher said despite the 35-3 loss at Indianapolis on Sunday, some Titans players played good football, including wide receiver Tyrone Calico, who played for the first time since Week Eight.

''Ty was good,’’ Fisher said. ''He moved around good, had a couple catches, and blocked well.’’

With season-ending injuries to Brandon Jones and Roydell Williams, Fisher said Calico will see a lot of playing time in the coming weeks. Fisher said the playing time will allow Calico, who finished Sunday's game with two catches for 26 yards, to get back to where he was before his ACL injury in 2004.

''In Ty’s case, as we stand right now, I’m hopeful that over the next four weeks that Ty ends up in a position where we hoped he would have been last year before the injury,’’ Fisher said. ''He’s got the knee behind him now, I’m hopeful that the calf is behind him. He can play, he can run, and be able to make plays.’’

Fisher said the final four games will allow players to improve individually.

''This will be valuable experience for Ty as we finish up,’’ Fisher said. ''A lot of along those lines, that’s kind of our approach as we finish up the last four weeks is to continue to stress improvement – individual improvement – with guys like Ty, so they can finish up strong and look forward to a productive off-season and return as good as they’ve ever been.”

Fisher said wide receiver Courtney Roby will see more passes come his way with the injuries at his position.

''He knows what to do, he's running well, he's doing the right things, we just haven't been able to get the ball to him,'' Fisher said. ''I'm hopeful that Courtney will have a productive fourth quarter for us this season. He's going to be playing a lot for us and he should get his hands on some balls.''

Fisher said cornerback Reynaldo Hill, along with several young players, have improved throughout the season.

''A lot of the young guys are along the same lines,’’ Fisher said. ''Both the corners are improving. I thought that Reynaldo, once he settled down and got a feel for Marvin [Harrison], and the speed, and the things they were doing, I thought he played a half, maybe even three quarters of good ball. It was a good experience for him.’’

Fisher said one team aspect that the Titans will emphasize this coming week will be the rushing game. The Titans ran 20 times for 40 yards against the Colts last Sunday.

''As we continue to emphasize the individual things, the individual improvements, there are also a number of areas team-wise that we have to work on,’’ Fisher said. ''Number one is to get the run game going once again. We didn’t have enough carries yesterday. We were hoping to get about 30 [carries], we didn’t. We made some plays in the run game but we’ve got to get that mindset back and really emphasize the run game down the stretch. Hopefully that will allow us to improve on third down which has not been a bright spot for us the last couple of weeks.’’
