He doesn't want to be a backup, but Titans quarterback Kerry Collins said he could see himself wearing a Titans uniform on the sidelines in 2007.
Collins, who will be an unrestricted free agent in March, said if no other NFL team wants his services as a starter in the league, the situation is Tennessee is just as good as elsewhere.
''If there's a starting job out there for me, I'm going to take it,'' Collins told The Tennessean. ''I know I can still play. Having said that, I do like it here. I like the area, and my family really likes it. I like playing for Jeff (Fisher). I think a lot of my decision — if they want me back here — will be based on whether or not Jeff comes back or if they sign Jeff to an extension.''
Collins started the first three games for the Titans earlier this season after Tennessee moved Billy Volek to third string after he demanded a trade. Collins completed 42 of 90 passes for 549 yards after only just one week of practice with the offense before the season started.
Since Week 4 of the season, however, Collins served the sidelines from a back up and somewhat mentor perspective for rookie Vince Young. It's a role that Collins said he is OK with.
''I feel like I've been able to give him some wisdom from time to time on certain things,'' Collins told The Tennessean. ''I think I've been helpful ... but he's done a lot of it by himself. He's a totally gifted player and he's got tremendous athletic instincts and I think he's got a tremendous future ahead of him.''
