Henry's Return Ends With Career Mark
By Jonathan Hutton December 24, 2006

Travis Henry’s return to Orchard Park accomplished the goal he wanted to reach.

The Titans left with a victory.

Much was made of Henry’s first return to Buffalo since the Bills traded the former Tennessee Volunteer to the Titans for a third round draft pick in June of 2005. However Henry constantly stated throughout the week his focus was not on redemption from the trade, but rather on getting the Titans their first six-game win streak since 2003.

“This team has been through so much and we just keep finding ways to win,” Henry said. “It was a team effort. We just played good. We got the ‘W’”.

Henry began and ended his day from the backfield carrying the same momentum. He came off a tough week last week against Jacksonville where he rushed for 37 yards, but finished the day against Buffalo with his 18th career 100-yard performance with135 yards on 25 carries.

“He was just excited about playing all week,” Fisher said. “I can’t say enough [about him]. It was a tremendous effort.”

With the 135 yards on the day, Henry also surpassed the 1000 rushing mark on the season for the third time in his career. Henry said it felt good to surpass the thousand yard mark back in his former home stadium.

“This is one of the games I circled when I found out we were playing Buffalo,” Henry said. “It was big for me. My teammates were behind me, but the thing is we want to win every game.”

“Coming back here and seeing the fans, ex-teammates I played with, it was great,” Henry said. “I had a lot of fun out there.”

Nothing was going to keep Henry from getting the start against his former team – even a missed flight. Henry missed the Titans flight to Buffalo when the team departed on Saturday due to confusion of the departure time and had to catch a later flight to Buffalo on his own. He rejoined the team in Buffalo Saturday night at about 8:30p.

“We normally leave at 2:30 and I just got the time mixed up,” Henry said. “I didn’t even look at the schedule. I was thinking we were leaving at 2:30 and we left at 1:30. I just have to look at the schedule from now on.”

Henry made the expected start despite missing the flight and said his return to Buffalo will be one to remember. He approached the postgame podium the same we he approached the game all week throughout practice and media sessions – with respect for the former city he called home.

“There are a lot of fans who still like me here. When I was here, they showed me so much love,” Henry said. “It was great [today]. I had a good time when I was in Buffalo.”
