Titans Trying To Stay Fresh For Bills
By Ben Lawson December 20, 2006

The Titans returned to the practice field on Wednesday with a light practice to give some players some extra rest as they prepare for the final two games of the season.

The first of the final two games will be against 7-7 Buffalo, who like the Titans are on a winning streak (won four of past five games).

An old face will come back to Buffalo as running back Travis Henry will make his return since being traded to the Titans last season. In four seasons with the Bills, Henry became the fourth-leading rusher in Bills history, collecting 3,849 yards and 27 touchdowns on 963 carries (4.0 avg.). He also posted 103 career receptions for 691 yards and two touchdowns.

Head Coach Jeff Fisher said Henry will be excited to return to where his NFL career began.

''Travis still has a lot of good friends there, great memories,’’ Fisher said. ''They gave him an opportunity. He’s very thankful to the organization. Of course anytime you get to play against a former team of yours there’s extra motivation.''

This game against Buffalo will be important to both teams as both are in the wild card hunt. Many things still have to happen for the Titans to make the playoffs, but a possibility still exists.

The main goal for the players and coaches’ will be that they finish this season winning their final two games as they can not control whether they make the playoffs or not.

Coach Fisher knows what’s at stake against the Bills as both teams are fighting for their playoff lives.

''It’s the big difference between being eliminated and still having a chance,’’ Fisher said. ''Those reasons are obvious. We’ve played the last couple of years where we eliminated. They played hard and they worked through it, but it’s a different feeling coming to work knowing there’s still a slight chance. It’s certainly a different environment.’’

Coach Fisher said he has liked what he has seen out of his team the past couple of months with a five game win streak, but added that this team still has some work to do.

''It’s gratifying to see them commit themselves to one another, to what we’re asking them to do and have it pay off,’’ Fisher said. ''It creates a good environment to come to work and it creates trust. One of the things you have to be very careful of as a young team is you have to be careful not to get caught up in what other people are saying about you. You just have to keep working and believe in yourselves and good things happen.’’

The Titans will play Buffalo at noon on Sunday.
