Last week was a great week as seven of our ten players picked scored points. We got touchdowns from Vince Young/TEN, Tony Romo/DAL, Carson Palmer/CIN(2), Frank Gore/SF, Kevin Jones/DET and Donte Stallworth/PHI. Also kicker Rob Bironas/TEN added two fields and two extra points for eight total points. We’ll continue to pass on the obvious picks and help teams make the tough choices for their weekly starters.
Here’s this week’s “Picks to Click”...
Running backs
• Brandon Jacobs/NYG – Jacobs is a freak of nature at running back. If you’re in a points only league, Jacobs is unstoppable at the goal line. We like him to run roughshod over the Eagles this week in the red zone.
• Joseph Addai/IND – The rookie from LSU has done a nice job this season filling Edgerrin James’shoes in the Colts backfield. We think he’ll have a big game on Monday Night at home against the Bengals Swiss cheese defense.
• Thomas Jones/CHI– Jones will be called on a lot lately to take pressure off of quarterback Rex Grossman and we don’t see this changing a whole lot the rest of the season. Look for Jones to be a workhorse this week against the Bucs defense.
Quarterbacks
• Drew Brees/NO – Brees may be the best quarterback in the league this season. He’s a great leader and he has all kinds of weapons at his disposal plus he uses them all with pinpoint efficiency. We like him to this week against the Skins.
• Matt Leinart/ARI – The rookie Leinart had his best week as a pro last week against the Seahawks and with the Broncos struggling offensively, we think he’ll get plenty of shots at their defense, so we recommend riding the Leinart wave.
• Steve McNair/BAL – McNair has proven that he can still play quarterback at a very high level in the NFL. As the “missing link”, he just may lead this overachieving Ravens team to the Super Bowl this season.
Receivers
• Lee Evans/BUF – Evans is a burner and he can score from anywhere on the field on any play. The Bills are playing pretty good lately and Evans is one of the reasons why. We think he’ll stay hot against the Dolphins in cold Buffalo.
• Donald Driver/GB – Driver has developed into a Pro Bowl type receiver, he’s coming off a great performance last week and we think he and Farve will stay hot this week against the lame Lions on the frozen tundra in Green Bay.
• Brandon Jones/TEN – This is a homer pick, but what the heck. There’s some good chemistry developing between Jones and Vince Young and we think this could be a career breakout game for him against the Jags secondary at home.
Kicker
• Stephen Gostkowski/NE - The rookie from Memphis has done a very admiral job this season filling the huge kicking shoe left by Adam Vinatieri. It’s very difficult for rookie kickers to make it in this league, but Gostkowski is a special player and we think he’ll make some big kicks this week against Houston.
